Chapter 4
Princess Emma was in her chamber room, organizing her wardrobe as she waited for her father. King Alban’s messenger informed her he’d be stopping by later that morning.
Emma stepped away from the wardrobe and went to her cabinet near the window. She opened the top drawer, where keepsakes were carefully organized. An ivory-carved dancer was resting on an oak pedestal. Emma smiled, carefully rotating it. She looked at the detailed carvings, remembering when her father had given it to her.
She looked out the window, watching the troubled ward below.
“Take heart, my people,” she said. “It won’t last forever.”
Emma looked back at the dancer, breathing deeply as her fond memories brought comfort.
“That was always one of your favorites.”
Emma looked toward the doorway. Her father stood there in his war robe, smiling brightly. She smiled back at him and rushed into his embrace. “I’ve missed you, Father.”
King Alban hugged her tightly, “Not as much as I’ve missed you, child.”
